Single window expanded ahead of AEC

The Customs Department will integrate more government agencies’ databases into the National Single Window (NSW) to create a full one-stop service to traders, to be further linked to similar systems in other Asean countries.

The move is part of Thailand’s preparations for the Asean Economic Community (AEC) late this year, Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, deputy spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, said on Saturday.

The NSW aims to cut costs, increase competitiveness and facilitate cross-border trade. It reduces protocols of related agencies so documents such as import and export permits and certificates issued by an agency can be sent to others electronically.

Thailand’s NSW system has an infrastructure that supports electronic integration of local offices at home and abroad, both in and outside Asean.

At present, 29 agencies have linked their databases to the NSW. Trial runs are being conducted to integrate seven more.

According to AEC’s blueprint on a single market and production base, each country member will develop its own NSW, to be integrated into Asean Single Window (ASW).

The ultimate goal is to cut management costs and resource usage for all traders.

“The prime minister has told the seven agencies to link up their databases before the AEC kicks off,” said Maj Gen Sansern.
