Happy Songkran Thai New Year on the Capitol Hill
On April 12, Ambassador Pisan Manawapat and the Royal Thai Embassy hosted a Songkran Thai New Year reception for friends of Thailand at the Capitol Hill for the second year in a row.
Over 200 guests from both the House of Representative and the Senate, as well as friends of Thailand in Washington and former Peace Corps to Thailand took part in the event.
Among the high-level guests were Congresswoman Judy Chu of California, Chairperson of the Asian Pacific American Caucus and a member of the Congressional Friends of Thailand Caucus; and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats and a senior member of the Subcommittee in Asia and the Pacific.
Popular Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Massaman Curry, as well as famous Thai beers were served, while volunteer teachers from a Thai temple in the DC neighborhood beautifully performed traditional Thai musical instruments to make it a memorable evening for all guests.
