Thailand supports continued active engagement of US with ASEAN

At the meeting between representatives from ASEAN Embassies in Washington DC and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on March 10, 2017, Thailand underlined the important role of the United States in Asia-Pacific and that the continued active engagement of the United States with ASEAN is vital for the region.

Thailand has been a strong supporter of ties between ASEAN and the United States, and stands ready to work closely with the Trump Administration to further advance the strategic partnership between ASEAN and the United States in all areas of common interest.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN since its establishment in Thailand in 1967, and the 40th anniversary of partnership between ASEAN and the United States.

Thailand also stands ready to work with the Trump Administration to strengthen the Thai-US alliance and strategic partnership which has long played an important role in maintaining peace and stability in Asia-Pacific.
