Press Release: Thailand presented contribution to American Red Cross to help disaster relief in Texas

On September 7, 2017, Thailand gave financial contribution to the American Red Cross to assist in the disaster relief efforts underway in Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

His Excellency Mr. Pisan Manawapat, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, delivered a check of over 30,000 US dollars or one million Thai baht on behalf of the Government and the people of Thailand to Ms. Linda Mathes, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region, at the American Red Cross Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Patricia Mahoney, Director, Mainland Southeast Asia of the U.S. Department of State witnessed the presentation.

In expressing his condolences for and solidarity with the people of Texas, Ambassador Pisan said this modest contribution represents an expression of everlasting friendship from the people of Thailand to the people of the United States. He was confident in the strength and resilience of the American people that will enable affected communities to recover and re-emerge stronger.

Ms. Linda Mathes thanked the Ambassador and Thailand for this contribution which meant a lot and assured Ambassador Pisan that every penny would be well spent for the people in desperate need of aid.

The contribution would support the American Red Cross’s efforts to assist those in need and rebuild communities affected by Hurricane Harvey, as well as in preparations for response to Hurricane Irma.
