Top Thai mobile operator partners with Phoenix firm

Thailand’s largest mobile communications operator Advanced Information Service (AIS) has partnered with BroadSoft, a Phoenix, an Arizona-based firm to launch a cloud PBX and unified communications service to serve the business customers among AIS’s 40 million subscribers in Thailand, the companies announced last week.

“As Thailand’s leading communications company, with our entry into the unified communications market for our corporate clients, it was essential that we brought a world leading solution to meet our customer’s cloud communication requirements,” said Weerachai Patcharopartwong, AIS senior vice president for enterprise marketing and sales.

BroadSoft is a global market share leader in cloud business software for unified communication as a service, and provider of collaboration and contact center as a service. Its premier product is the BroadSoft Business UC-One® application. Broadsoft is a global company and said it has over 500 corporate customers in 80 countries supporting millions of subscribers. The company claims it is the global market share leader for cloud-based unified communications (UC).

“AIS has an incredibly driven and talented team, and we believe their service launch will have a powerful and transforming impact on the UC market in Thailand.  We look forward to working closely together over the coming quarters as the AIS Business Cloud service continues to grow,” said Jonathan Reid, BroadSoft’s managing director for Asia-Pacific and emerging markets.

AIS said that its Business Cloud service will offer Thai business users leading edge cloud services, including a full suite of secure UC services including voice and video conferencing, instant messaging and presence, and team collaboration tools. The company recently opened its AIS Innovation Center in Bangkok where it displays and demonstrates its suite of unified communications (UC) solutions.

“We believe that working with BroadSoft has allowed us to provide the most comprehensive and compelling solution set for our clients as they transform their businesses away from legacy systems and take advantage of the speed, security, flexibility and powerful collaboration tools offered by a world class UC platform,” Weerachai said.

AIS was founded in 1986 as a computer rental business. It has been listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand since 1991and regularly been among the top performers on the exchange. The company was bought by Temasek Holdings of Singapore in 2006.

In February, AIS launched AIS Play, a cable and streaming service that hopes to eventually challenge Truevisions, the leading cable provider in the Kingdom.
