Embassy team met BIO on how to move Bio-based Thailand forward

On December 15, 2017, Mrs. Pattrawan Vechasart, Chargé d’Affaires, led the Thai Embassy team including Dr. Sedthapandh Krajangwongs, Minister Counsellor of Science and Technology, and Mr. Piyawat Naigowit, First Secretary from the Agricultural Office, to meet with Mr. Matthew O’Mara, Vice President for International Affairs and key directors at Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) in Washington. Both sides took stock of Thailand’s existing participation of BIO’s events, exchanged information, and explored ideas on moving Bio-based economy in Thailand forward.
BIO is the largest trade association representing more than 1,000 biotechnology companies, academic institutions and related organizations in the U.S. BIO interests are concentrated in health, industrial & environmental, and agricultural biotechnologies. The organization produces the world’s largest annual gathering of the biotechnology industry, BIO International Convention. The next gathering will take place on June 4-7, 2018 in Boston. Another major event hosted by BIO is BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, scheduled to take place during July 16-19, 2018 in Philadelphia.
Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) joined hand with Board of Investment (BOI) in leading delegation from Thailand to BIO International Convention in San Diego in 2017. They will also be present at the event in Boston in 2018.
