The Royal Thai Embassy witnessed groundbreaking ceremony of an investment by Banpu, a leading Thai energy company, in Pennsylvania

On January 15, 2019, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Boosara Kanchanalai visited Tuckhannock in northern Pennsylvania to witness groundbreaking of Banpu’s BKV Operating LLC.

Minister Boosara congratulated Banpu executives on another step forward and rapid expansion in their oil and gas business in the United States. She expressed her appreciation for the support from the local government and local community in Tuckhannock. She underlined that this investment will further contribute to job creation and local economy of the area, and represented another showcase of close friendship between Thailand and the United States.

Executives from Banpu included Mr. Chanin Vongkusolkit, Chairman, Mrs. Somruedee Somphong, CEO, Mr. Anon Sirisaengtaksin, Director, and Mr. Thiti Mekavichai, CEO of Banpu North America Corporation as well as Mr. Chris Kalnin, CEO of Kalnin Ventures. In congratulating the company, Minister Boosara was joined by Mr. Nipon Petchpornprapas, Consul-General of Thailand to New York.

Banpu is one of the success stories of Thai private sector. The company has grown from a local coal producer in Thailand to a multinational company with innovation, diversifying its original portfolio to renewable energy as well as oil and gas businesses in 10 countries including the United States.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington is fully supportive of efforts to further promote the mutually beneficial economic relations between Thailand and the United States through two-way investment.
