Thailand Film Office is offering student filmmakers to Thailand Short Film Competition 2019 to find next generation of filmmakers who will bring Thailand to the screen. We expect over hundred filmmakers from across the globe to have this opportunity to fly to Thailand and make a short film. The competing teams will be provided with return flights, accommodation, a budget of 30,000 Thai Baht (approx USD 1,000), and professional production support. Also, the winning films will receive prizes totaling 430,000 Thai Baht (approx USD 13,400.)
The competition is now in its sixth year and over 200 aspiring filmmakers have joined the competition. Films such as ‘Hangover II’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘Only God Forgives’, ‘The Railway Man’ and many others have filmed in Thailand.
We are looking for filmmakers in a team of two persons, so you must have a partner who you trust absolutely. You must be engaged in a full-time course of study related to film or the media at undergraduate or equivalent level and have access to a DSLR or digital cinema camera producing footage at 1080p resolution, etc. and be available to join the mission from March 25 to April 2, 2019. Starting March 25, the chosen filmmakers from across the world will gather in Thailand and prepare for the challenge of their lives. Over the next six days, they will spread across Thailand in 20 teams and each make a short film. They must find the subject; actors or interviewees, take on all the technical roles, and edit the film to a deadline on March 30, 2019.
The team’s mission is to make a short film exploring “Living Eco, Living Thainess”. With increasing number of world travelers engaging in activities and journeys in a way that respects, conserves, and interacts with local cultures and environments, we are looking for a fresh approach, using imagination, dramatic technique, and creative vision. You will have to find locations, subjects, and use your talent to show your perspective on Thailand within the context of the region you have chosen. The character of your region may be found in unique geographical features, the culture, the people, the food, or the local products.
It’s all free! since Thailand Film Office will provide one return air ticket to Thailand for every film-maker and a total of four nights accommodation in Bangkok to cover the start and end of your trip, a van with driver for your time while not in Bangkok and 30,000 Baht for expenses during your mission. On top, one local assistant, who will travel with you and support you with translation, travel insurance and mission briefing in Bangkok. The wining teams will also receive : 300,000/80,000/50,000 Baht for Grand Prize winner, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up. The best social media of the Festival Award will receive two nights accommodation in Thailand for use on your next trip.
