Frederick celebrates Thai New Year Water Festival for the first time

On June 16, 2019, Chargé d’affaires Boosara Kanchanalai participated in the first “Thai Songkran Day” in Frederick, Maryland. The event was organized by a leading Thai entrepreneur in restaurant business in the city in collaboration with the Asian American Center of Frederick (AACF); and was officially recognized by Proclamation of the Government of the Frederick County and the Mayor of the City of Frederick. Mayor of the City of the Frederick also joined Chargé d’affaires, President of the Asian American Center, and Mr. Jittisak Phakam of Sumittra Thai Cuisine, in an official opening of the event.

People of Frederick City and nearby enjoyed a whole day of festivities which started with Buddhist blessing from venerable monks from Wat Thai Washington, D.C., appreciation for variety of Thai cultural performances, Thai cuisine and products including water splashing indicate multicultural nature of the communities which bridges peoples across borders.
