Radisson signs deal to open hotel in Phuket

The U.S.-based Radisson Hotel Group has signed a deal with Thai partners to open a hotel on the resort island of Phuket, as investment in Thailand’s hotel sector remains bullish on robust tourism.
“Phuket is the perfect fit for our upscale Radisson brand,” said Katerina Giannouka, president, Asia-Pacific, at Radisson Hotel Group. “The signing of this new property reflects our confidence in Thailand’s tourism industry.”
Phuket was the 11th most visited destination on the planet last year, according to MasterCard’s 2018 Global Destination Cities Index. The island attracted 9.29 million international visitors and is regarded as Thailand’s premier beach resort destination.
The Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach is scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2023 on the northwest shore of the island. The hotel will be located just a 15-minute drive from Phuket International Airport.
The facility will have 220 rooms, direct access to the beach, and at least 20 of the rooms and suites will have private swimming pools. Radisson will manage the project. The cost or investment was not disclosed.
The hotel would be Radisson’s fifth in Thailand. The Minnesota-based company currently owns and operates the Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok, Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit, Park Plaza Bangkok Soi 18, and Park Plaza Sukhumvit Hotel.
The company has seven hotel brands for different market niches and has over 1,400 properties in 115 countries worldwide.
Radisson partners with a new venture, APlan Properties, and said that “APlan has a proven track record of delivering quality and innovative design and functionality, and a strong reputation of reliability, trust, and credibility.”
