Thai businesses win big at Asia Corporate Awards

Eleven Thai and Thailand-based corporations took home honors last week at the annual Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards (ACES) that were created to promote best practices and ethics in business in the region.
The ACES Awards first launched six years ago, and this was the first time that Thailand was the host. This year’s theme focuses on organizational excellence and emphasizes sustainability.
“A sustainable business is one that generates profit while improving societal and environmental conditions. At Aces 2019, it is my pleasure to name and celebrate some of these forward-thinking companies,” said Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer of the Mors Group, a Malaysia-based corporate consultancy, who organizes the event. “It means setting up a business that will be resilient and will thrive in the long term.”
Three firms in Thailand received awards for sustainability: pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (Thailand), energy producer The Shell Company of Thailand, and telecoms firm True Corporation were recognized in the Top Community Care category.
Thongma Vijitpongpun, Founder and Chairman of Pruksa Holding, a real estate company from Thailand, won Entrepreneur of the Year.
Krungthai-AXA Life Insurance won Top Workplace in Asia, and Frank Insurance Broker (Thailand) won Asia’s Most Promising Small and Medium Enterprise.
King Wai Group won in Asia’s Most Admirable Young Leaders category, Nestlé (Thailand), and Generali Thailand won Outstanding Leaders in Asia, Polyplex (Thailand), and WP Energy won Asia’s Most Influential Companies, and Tetra Pak Thailand won in Top Green Companies in Asia.
“The qualities that a good leader needs to have are sales, presentation, and communication skills to influence stakeholders to believe and move in the same direction,” said Bundit Jiamanukoonkit, country manager and chief executive officer of Generali Life Assurance.
