Green bio-chemical industrial complex ready to bloom

The Nakhon Sawan Bio Complex, one of Thailand’s first green industrial estates and a milestone in the Kingdom’s push for sustainability, will be up and running within weeks, according to the Head of Global Green Chemicals, a firm that will have a major production plant there.
This Bio Complex, situated in a province not that far from north of Bangkok, represents both a leap forward and the closing of a circle for Thailand. Half a century ago, agriculture was the major core of the Kingdom’s economy. With domestic and foreign investment in manufacturing, Thai economy became increasingly industrialized and, for a decade, was the fastest-growing economy in the world. Today, Thailand is a nation with robust industries and services.
Thailand’s transformation has been put to the test by sustainability and environmental costs. Now, in pursuing greener development and a circular economy, Thailand is making use of resources and raw materials from the farmers who once were the pillar of its economy.
“This project will be a major economic driver, placing Thailand on the fast track of bio-economic development,” said Wanlapa Sophiskhaunkhant, Vice President of Green Global Chemical (GGC).
Biodegradable plastics will be among the products GGC intends to manufacture at the Bio Complex.
GGC is the biochemical subsidiary of PTT Global Chemical, part of partially privatized state energy conglomerate PTT Group. Its involvement demonstrates that Thailand’s commitment to a greener economy reaches to the highest levels of industry and government.
The Bio Complex’s first phase will have a sugar-cane crushing unit, an ethanol production plant, a biomass power plant with 85 megawatts of capacity, and steam generation of 475 tons per hour.
