Thailand and U.S. discussed ways to reinvigorate partnership at Webinar “U.S. and Thailand Perspectives on Geostrategic Landscape and Regional Architecture”
H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Ambassador Manasvi Srisodapol and Senator Tammy Duckworth shared their views on ways to develop concrete and affirmative agenda for the Thailand – U.S. alliance amidst changing strategic landscape and regional architecture at the Webinar “U.S. and Thailand perspectives on Geostrategic Landscape and Regional Architecture” on 27 July 2021.
Their remarks were followed by a panel discussion by Dr. Darmp Sukontasap, Co-Founder and Director of the Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies, Senator Cory Gardner, a former Senator from Colorado, and Mr. Alex Feldman, President and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council. The discussants identified many areas of possible cooperation, including public health, cybersecurity, transnational crimes, supply chains diversification, climate change, human security, trade and investment, while emphasizing the need for both countries having regular formal and informal conversations in order to come up with a collaborative strategy.
The webinar was the first of the New Opportunities for the United States-Kingdom of Thailand Alliance in the Indo-Pacific webinar series, a collaboration between the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., the East-West Center in Washington, D.C., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and the International Studies Center to further promote engagement and better understanding between the United States and Thailand’s respective government officials, parliamentarians, private sectors, academic and think tank analysts, and the general public.
