Thailand’s Miss Universe: from humble to glamor

Anna Sueangam-iam proved that humble beginnings, as her parents worked as Bangkok trash collectors, are no barrier to success when she won the Miss Thailand Universe 2022 pageant last week.

The 23-year-old graduate with honors from Bangkok’s Kasetsart University will represent Thailand at the global Miss Universe pageant. The 71st edition of the competition will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica in December.

Anna said that she hoped her story would be an inspiration to others who believe they are less fortunate than others. She urged them to not lose hope. Dare to dream, she added, and strive to fulfil that dream. The key is to study hard.

“You are not the only ones facing despair. We all have to learn from our troubles to adapt and survive. I would call on all of you to have confidence in yourselves and rise to fight again. If I can, so can you.”

Bangkok Governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, called Anna a proud child of the capital as he welcomed a delegation of contestants at the City Hall.

“I would like to congratulate all, especially Ms. Anna, who is a child of Bangkok as her father has been working for the city for 32 years,” the Governor said.

“Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Sueangam-iam, for working very hard all your life for the people of Bangkok and for raising such a wonderful child. Her success brings pride to all of us,” added Chadchart.
