Thailand ranked top country for wellness retreats

“If you are looking to relax and rejuvenate, there is no place better than Thailand.” That is the conclusion of consultants from Slingo, whose survey found that the Kingdom is the ideal place for anyone searching for wellness retreats.

“Often known as the spa capital of Asia, Thailand is home to some of the most therapeutic and luxurious retreats in the world. Thailand ranks in the top position on our list, with better reviews for wellness activities and resorts than any other destination we looked at,” Slingo mentioned in its result announcement.

Thailand was followed on the list by Indonesia and the Maldives. The U.S. also scored high as an overall destination for standard holidays, but Thailand tops in the wellness vacation category.

Slingo researchers said that they used TripAdvisor data to calculate their results. They scanned the data for which countries have the highest-rated resort hotels, wellness and spa activities, as well as certain keywords in the reviews for each country.

The number of wellness retreats, spas and purveyors of alternative health has grown exponentially in the Kingdom during the past 10 to 15 years. Thailand has several world renowned spa and wellness centers, especially along the coastal areas.

Most offer traditional Thai massage, therapies and herbal medicines blended with the latest in health and wellness practices from around the world. Yoga and pilates centers are widespread, as are retreats offering all sorts of cleanses and treatments. Slingo also added that Thailand has 2,673 types of wellness activities to choose from.

The Thai government has made health and wellness a priority sector for investment under the umbrella of medical services and research, with incentives offered for investors.
