Billboard: Thai recording studio among world’s most beautiful

New York City is home to The Hit Factory, but Thailand’s Bang Saray is home to one of the most beautiful recording studios in the world ¬– Karma Studios, according to the American music magazine Billboard.

For decades, Thailand has attracted Hollywood directors searching for beautiful and exotic locations. Hit films shot in Thailand include The Ugly American, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Killing Fields, The Beach, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Now, Thailand may be beginning to make its mark in the music industry too.

Karma Studios is a state-of-the-art three-studio facility in lush tropical surroundings a couple of hours from Bangkok. It was founded by renowned producer Chris Craker who worked at Abbey Road Studios in London, made famous by The Beatles. In the realm of popular music, Craker has produced artists including Elton John, Liam Gallagher and Tony Bennett. He has also produced film scores such as John Williams’ Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace (Star Wars) and James Horner’s Braveheart and Legends of the Fall.

“In the 12 years since former Abbey Road Studios producer and Sony executive Chris Craker opened Karma on a two-acre plot in the Thai fishing village of Bang Saray, acts including Enter Shikari, Jessie J, Bullet for My Valentine and The Libertines have recorded there,” Billboard said.

Karma Studio’s website said, “Chris fell in love with Thailand from day one, and it was the obvious choice for Chris to set up an exotic ‘creative utopia’ away from the real world.” Billboard said that many musicians have described Karma Studios as “paradise.”
