Bangkok rated world’s sixth best city for expats

A global community of expatriates gave Thailand’s capital the thumbs up, ranking Bangkok the world’s sixth-best city for expatriates to live and work, and just one of two countries in Southeast Asia to make the list.
The Thai capital has been named the world’s most visited city by MasterCard several times during the last decade. But the recent survey by Internations, a global community of expatriates, shows that Bangkok is more than just a great place to visit – it is also a great place to live and work.
Aside from ranking sixth overall in the Internations survey, the Big Mango finished second in the subcategory of the Personal Finance Index. 69 percent of expats in Bangkok said that they were happy with the general cost of living, compared to 45 percent globally. In the Expat Essentials Index, affordability was a factor, leading to Bangkok coming in twenty-second place.
The city scored high on ease of settling in, but relatively low when it came to dealing with local bureaucracy.
Internations said its Expat City Ranking is based on the annual Expat Insider survey. The organization claims it is one of the most extensive surveys about living and working abroad, with 11,970 respondents this year.
A total of 50 cities around the globe were featured in 2022, offering in-depth information about five areas of expat life: Quality of Life, Ease of Settling In, Working Abroad, Personal Finance, and the new Expat Essentials Index, which covers digital life, admin topics, housing, and language.
Singapore is another country in Southeast Asia that finished in the top ten, coming in tenth place. The cities that finished ahead of Bangkok were Valencia (Spain), Dubai (UAE), Mexico City (Mexico), Lisbon (Portugal) and Madrid (Spain).
