Thai community leaders and Thai restaurants owners meet to further discuss the establishment of the Thai Restaurant Association in the United States and Thai Town in the DMV

On 8 March 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat held a continual meeting with Thai restaurant owners and relevant Thai community leaders in Washington DC and nearby areas (DMV) and other states in the US to further discuss the establishment of the Thai Restaurant Association of America (TRAA) and Thai Town in DMV area. The meetings discussed various issues as follows:

 

  1. The meeting unanimously appointed 8 members to be the preliminary working group to further discuss and actualize the establishment and registration of TRAA, in which a lawyer from the Thai American Bar Association (TABA) will be their legal advisor. The meeting also mutually classified the types of the association into 3 groups: 1) owners of Thai restaurants and relevant business 2) staff or employees in Thai restaurant business and 3) other members interested in Thai restaurant industry.

 

  1. The meeting exchanged views on 3 potential sites in Virginia to establish the Thai Town, a land in Loudoun County, a building in Chantilly, and area at Carlin Spring Road and Route 7. Participants agreed to gather more in-depth information on each site and explore other potential sites for further discussion and consideration in the next meeting.

 

  1. The meeting also discussed ways to cooperate in the Embassy’s upcoming activities, such as Songkran Thai Restaurant Week in April and Thai Festival in July this year.
