Thailand proposes to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Board of Governors

On 10 March 2023, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., together with Mr. Wempi Saputra and Ms. Rosemary Lim, Executive Directors of Southeast Asia Voting Group of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), co-hosted a reception on the occasion of Thailand’s submission to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Board of Governors.

Ambassador Tanee stressed the role of Thailand in fostering closer cooperation between multilateral development banks and international organizations, especially in supporting the work of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund as regular contributor to the International Development Association (IDA) since 2013. By hosting the meeting, it would be an opportunity for Thailand to further contribute to the agenda of both organizations in green, resilient and inclusive development. Moreover, Ambassador Tanee emphasized the readiness of Thailand in hosting the said Meetings since the Kingdom has extensive experience in hosting leading international conferences and global events. Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC) where Thailand has proposed to use as the venue for hosting the Meetings, offers a world class event platform and recently hosted the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November 2022.
