Recipient of the “2021 Prince Mahidol Youth Award Scholarship” calls on the Thai Ambassador

On 24 April 2023, Dr. Phurin Areesawangkit, recipient of the “2021 Prince Mahidol Youth Award Scholarship,” on a one-year research visit at the University of Pennsylvania, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Tanee Sangrat, to introduce himself and his work.
Dr. Phurin is currently conducting research on the development of iPSC-derived CAR T cells technology to treat patients with Cholangiocarcinoma or a cancer in the slender tubes that carry digestive fluid bile through liver. In the future, it may be possible to apply this technology to treat other types of cancers.
Ambassador Tanee expressed his readiness to support all Thai doctors who are furthering their studies or conducting researches in the US. He also invited Dr. Phurin and other Award Recipients in the US to take part in activities organized by the Embassy, particularly in the Mobile Consular Service, to give preliminary advice on basic health issues to the Thai nationals visiting the consular unit. The Ambassador also requested Dr. Phurin to assist in establishing a network of past and present Award Recipients from the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, for future collaboration purposes.
