Thai Food and Massage Rank Most Popular at Open House

On Saturday, 6 May 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the Cultural Tourism, DC, organized the Thai Embassy Open House at the premises of the Embassy, as part of the “Around the World Embassy Tour” Passport DC Program. Over 3,000 visitors participating in the event enjoyed learning more about and experiencing Thailand and Thai culture.

Activities promoting Thai culture at the event included Thai performing arts (traditional dance and music), Muay Thai (Thai kick-boxing), Thai massage, Thai textiles fashion show, Thai food, Thai desserts, Thai drinks, Thai products, Thai non-profit organizations, a digital photo booth with scenic Thai landscapes, and a 190th Anniversary of Thailand-U.S. Diplomatic Relations Exhibition (1833 Treaty of Amity and Commerce, historic documents illustrating contacts between the two countries, the story of the Siam Twins, Royal visits, sister city partnerships, and records about various buildings).  Team Thailand offices in Washington, D.C. joined in full force to organize and participate in the event alongside visitors, friends and colleagues.

According to a survey conducted by the Office of Higher Education, Science Research, and Innovation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC, out of the 430 visitors who participated, 90% visited the Thai Embassy Open House for the first time. An approximate 61% have not yet visited Thailand and 39% plan to visit Thailand within this year or the next, with Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi being the 4 most popular destinations. Visitors were also asked what they associated with Thailand and the answers included: food, culture, beaches, temples, massage, and Muay Thai, respectively.

Presentation the Thai health and Delicious Thai Rice. RD 43 rice and Riceberry rice were showcased and served to all the guests. RD 43 rice contains medium to low glycemic index (GI) value which helps control blood sugar level. Riceberry rice is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and natural fiber. The specialty rice drew a lot of attentions from the attendees for their unique tastes and health benefits. Presented by Office of Agricultural Affairs.

Thai Hom Mali rice is recognized as the country’s premium-grade rice and most precious grain. Hom Mali rice is very popular among international consumers and it is also in great demand overseas. Since Thai exporters have complained about the infringements on the Hom Mali trademark. Thai Hom Mali Rice on winner of 2020 World’s Best Rice Award, which is the 6-time to be awarded  (other years:2009, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020) by The Rice Trader on World Rice Conference 2020.  The excellent quality of Thai rice has been presented to international market, and will accelerate the exportation of Thai rice, benefitting the Thai rice farmers.  Presented by Office of Commercial Affairs.

Thai Art Exhibition from Thai Student in Thailand, organized by Cancer Fighter, Inc. Cancer Fighters Art, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization incorporated in Lafayette, Louisiana to rise funds to benefit cancer treatment and prevention. On display and available for purchase: Art works by Thai youth and traditional Thai handicraft. Proceeds go to charities Cancer Fighters Art, Inc. and Smiles on Wings Foundation, respectively.
