On 27 May 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat joined prominent members of both public and private sectors of Minnesota in presiding over the opening ceremony of 2023 Minnesota Songkran Festival at St. Paul, Minnesota, upon the invitation of Ms. Korawan Muangmode, Executive Director of Minnesota Thai Cultural Council, and Mr. Dee Noree, President of Wat Promwachirayan.
The Ambassador extended his felicitation on the successful organization of this event, which was considered to be one of the biggest Songkran festivals hosted in the U.S. He also joined in celebrating the 190th anniversary of Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations. Importantly, the festivity was permitted to be held in front of the State Capitol of Minnesota for the second consecutive year while receiving unwavering support from other Southeast Asian Communities as well as State and local authorities, in keeping with the “Songkran for all” theme. This event was officially acknowledged by the State of Minnesota through Governor Tim Walz’s issuance of a Proclamation in recognition of the Thai New Year, and witnessed the turn up of over 40,000 visitors.
Ambassador Tanee visited and joined the Thai community in merits making at Wat Promwachirayan in St. Louis Park. He also presented certificate of appreciation to everyone who contributed to the organization of Songkran Festival. In addition, the Ambassador had an opportunity to meet with Mr. Jake Spano, Mayor of St. Louis Park, to extend his gratitude for taking great care of the Thai community and the Thai temple over the years. In response, the Mayor commended the constructive roles played by the Thai community, which extensively benefited the city including its tourism.
