On 11 June 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat presided over the merit-making ceremony for the 98th birthday anniversary of Phra Rajamongkhon Rangsri (Luang Ta Chi), the abbot of Wat Thai, Washington, D.C. and the advisor of the council of Thai Bhikkhus in the U.S.

More than 500 Thais and foreigners from across the U.S. and from Thailand, and also 85 monks from across the U.S., Thailand and other countries attended the ceremony. They jointly performed the Thaksinupathan and the merit-making ceremony, praying and giving food to monks, offering Thai Dhamma necessities, and listening to Buddhist sermons. 35 Thai associations, clubs, and restaurants have jointly provided an almshouse for Buddhists to eat together, as well as Thai music and Thai dance performances by volunteer teachers and students from Wat Thai School in Washington, D.C.

Ambassador Tanee also took this opportunity to inform participants about the Embassy’s work for the Thai community and consular matters, and invited all to join Sawasdee DC Thai Festival, which will be held on 2 July 2023 at the National Mall.
