Ambassador of Thailand promotes Thai agricultural exports to the U.S.

On 15 June 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat, Mrs. Krissana Sukhumparnich, Minister (Agriculture), and officials from the Thai Embassy, called on Ms. Alexis Taylor, Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), to discuss trade and investment in agriculture and the food industry.

Ambassador emphasized the importance of the U.S. as a major export market for food and agricultural products from Thailand. He highlighted that in 2022, Thailand was the U.S.’s third largest supplier of food and agricultural products with an export volume of over 10 billion USD.  He also thanked the U.S. side for approving pomelo exports in addition to seven other fruits, which had already been granted permission.

Both sides explored opportunities to further increase fruit export from Thailand. U/S Taylor also stood ready to support Thailand on modernizing and strengthening the agricultural sector through the Food for Progress Program with a priority on climate smart agriculture.
