Ambassador Tanee advocates defense cooperation with Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs

On 10 July 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat met with Dr. Ely S. Ratner, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs at the Pentagon. The Ambassador followed up on defense cooperation between Thailand and the U.S., including the delivery of weapons, the cooperation on Maritime Security, and the International Military Education and Training (IMET).

The Ambassador reiterated Thailand’s readiness to host the 2nd Thailand – U.S. Strategic and Defense Dialogue later this year. Both sides also discussed regional security issues and cooperation as well.

Dr. Ratner opined that the Thai-U.S. relations was excellent. Last year, the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, and the Vice President paid their visits to Thailand.  Dr. Ratner also looked forward to having a productive meeting in the 2nd Thailand – U.S. Strategic and Defense Dialogue and reiterated the US readiness to enhance its support in IMET for Thailand.
