Visa Information

E-Stickerless System:

Since 27 September 2021, the Royal Thai Embassy has been implementing “stickerless” E-Visa service. It is no longer required to submit a passport and and documents via mail to the Royal Thai Embassy. 

Processing Time

Processing time is up to 15 business days. This means within 15 business days; you should see the status update on your visa application dashboard. If you received email requesting for more documents, please allow additional 5 business days for your visa to be processed.  

It is recommended to plan and apply for a visa around 1 month prior to the departure date. Please note that the most type of visas have a validity of 90 days, do not apply more than 3 months in advance. A visa becomes effective from the date of issuance. If you apply too early, the visa may expire before your trip and you will have to re-apply. 

Attention:

The visa fee is non-refundable**

– Due to a large number of applications, the Embassy does NOT check individual status.  

– Consular officers reserve the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary and reject any application without providing a reason. 

– Per the regulation, the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C. CANNOT issue a visa for foreign national who are currently in Thailand. All travelers need to obtain a visa before entering Thailand.  

Visa Exemption / Visa on Arrival (VOA)

For a visit of up to 45 days** 

(**Previous permitted period of stay was 30 days; the extension to 45 days will be in effect from 1 Oct 2022 until 31 March 2023)

U.S. Passport holders are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 45 days on each visit or 15-day stays if arriving by land-crossing.

Entering the Kingdom through land/sea border checkpoints under Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme is permitted only twice in a calendar year. Travelers entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme must possess adequate cash of or equivalent to 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. 
 
Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period not exceeding 45 days on each visit: Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme: Andora, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, 
Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Sweden, UAE, UK, USA, and Vietnam. Bilateral Agreement Arrangement: Lao, Macau, Mongolia, and Russia.
 

For a visit of up to 90 days**

Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 90 days on each visit: Bilateral Agreement Arrangement: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Korea, and Peru 

For a visit of up to 14 days**

Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 14 days on each visit: Bilateral Agreement Arrangement: Cambodia, Myanmar

NB: Tourist Visa Exemption does not apply to foreigners holding Travel Document for Aliens issued by the above mentioned countries.
